W.S.E. Mileage Club
We are celebrating our 10th year of Mileage Club at Washington Street Elementary that started back when we were at Allegan Street Elementary! Our goal this year is that, as a school, we will hit 20,000 miles! It's a lofty goal, but one I'm sure we will achieve!
Setting goals is always part of Mileage Club. I always tell the students at the beginning of the year to set a goal for themselves that is at least 5 miles more than what they achieved in the previous year, and most of our kids are successful in this!
In Mileage Club students walk or run during their lunch times twice a week all year long, in all kinds of weather! Students earn small incentives every 5 miles that they move. Our MC track is 1/10 of a mile, so 10 laps = 1 mile. Students get a special toe token, as seen in the picture above for every five miles, for every ten miles they earn something extra like a key chain @ 10 miles, a neon colored shoe lace @ 20 miles, a gift certificate to our local Arby's @ 30 miles, an invitation to my pool party the last week of school, DURING school @ 40 and the AWESOME 50 mile t-shirt (shown below) just to name a few.
We have a couple weeks left in our Quest For Pizza contest. This runs from Christmas break until Spring break, the lower and upper el. class that earns the most sticks during that time wins a pizza party!
